1996:

ARDF competitions:
A team consisting of Anne ZL3VR, Margaret ZL3UD, Denise Waller ZL3TDW and Cheryl ZL2VCC travelled to Townsville in Australia and joined with competitors from 10 other countries for the IARU Region 3 ARDF Championships.

Overseas visitors:
Thida Denpruektham HS1ASC - Secretary of the Radio Amateur Society of Thailand (RAST) and Editor of '100 Watt' the Thai ham radio magazine who extended her visit from the ARDF Championships in Townsville to make a hectic 7 day trip between Auckland and Wellington.

Visiting overseas:
Carol ZL2VQ as an NZART Councillor accompanied President Jim Meachen ZL2BHF to the AGM of the Wireless Institute of Australia in Melbourne in May. It was soon made very clear that NZART Conferences are so different from that experienced over the Tasman.

A group of 11 WARO members and some OMs travelled to Perth, Western Australia in late September to attend the 21st birthday ALARAMEET where Jill ZL2DBO made a presentation on behalf of NZ WARO. From there Carol ZL2VQ, Cathy ZL2ADK and their respective OMs visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where they exchanged greetings with various members of MARTS (Malaysian counterpart of NZART) and were treated 'like celebrities'.

AGM in cold, wet, snowy Wellington:
In her President's report Chris ZL1BQW advised that the idea of amending the Thelma Souper Memorial Contest to include a VHF section was deemed to present too many anomalies so would not be considered any further.
A 'vote of thanks was extended to the Executive for a great job in turning the finances around in the last 12 months'.
Lynley Simpson ZL2ULM of Murchison was the recipient of the NZART Youth Achievement Award and also received a 12 month complimentary subscription to WARO.
30 year Continuous Certificate was presented to Clarrie Hoban ZL1BDZ.
Recipient of the Myrtle Earland Memorial Rose Bowl for the NZ WARO Achievement Award was Dawn Young ZL2AGX for her outstanding service to NZ WARO and Amateur Radio during her 10 year membership.
