1990:

Summer Activities:
The 14th Commonwealth Games were held in Auckland during the summer and Lynn Sayer ZL2PQ was one of the operators of ZM14CG for a period during that time.
Area get-togethers are still very popular during the summer months and enjoyed by all who attend.

Contest:
Minor changes were made to the scoring of the Thelma Souper Memorial Contest this year to tie in the 150th Anniversary of New Zealand and add another dimension to the contest. Four DX members in England made a surprise entry into the contest in April and forwarded logs for their 'mini WARO contest' which was organised by Diana Hughes G4EZI and run during the same time slot as here in New Zealand. For her continued support of WARO and amateur radio, Diana was awarded a Certificate of Merit.

Annual General Meeting:
Held in Hamilton with an attendance of 29 Transmitting and 10 Associate members and presided over by Carol ZL2VQ.
Recommended Constitutional changes put to the 1989 AGM and slight modifications were adopted by this meeting as there had been insufficient members present for a Quorum at last year's AGM. The Sponsorship Secretary position instigated last year has proven to be a real success and with Pearl ZL2QY's efforts and intense interest in promoting amateur radio amongst women many DX YLs have been sponsored into WARO.
Treasurer Dawn ZL2AGX reported finances were very healthy and no subscription increase was necessary. The President displayed the new wooden shields which are to replace the Myrtle Earland Memorial Rose Bowl miniatures as keepsakes because the miniatures have become too expensive.

WARO Amateur of the year:
At a small gathering in Otaki on June 16 Carol ZL2VQ presented the Myrtle Earland Memorial Rose Bowl to Pearl Neilson ZL2QY for her services to WARO and Amateur Radio. Pearl also received one of the new shields. The citation read out included "....and has been a true ambassador for New Zealand and Amateur Radio in general, especially in DX lands. Her service to WARO has been performed quietly and efficiently and, because of her disabilities, has required diligence and dedication above the call of duty."

Craftswoman:
Brenda Shore ZL4OQ received much publicity for the 2 large silk wall hangings she painted/stitched/quilted for the Maori Hill (Dunedin) Presbyterian Church. She really was a lady of many talents.

Silent Key:
Mabel Gee ZL139 - a long time supporter and Associate member since 1975 passed away in the place she loved best - her garden.
