1992:

Amateur Radio in Schools:
ZL2ODS (Oroua Downs School) where Cathy ZL2ADK as a teacher spends lunch hours helping children with interesting radio contacts, including some with Serge Kaluga from his home in Russia and longer chats with a seaman on the roll-on ferry working between Wellington and Lyttelton.

Annual General Meeting:
In her annual report Carol ZL2VQ as retiring President wrote that the year had been a relatively quiet one with 10 Executive on-air nets held to attend any business as it arose. A list of members' christian names had been compiled for inclusion in the NZART annual Call-Book listings. To celebrate our 30th anniversary Continuous Membership Certificates have been initiated and the six members who received them at this meeting were Vicki Shaw ZL1OC, Celia Reed ZL1ALK, Ruth Lobb ZL3PL, Zelda Garlick ZL3AAB, Judith Holland ZL3AGE, and Rae Braddock ZL4NI. A Certificate of Merit was presented to Gwen ZL2UKG for services to WARO under difficult conditions (ongoing health problems meant she carried out Treasurer duties temporarily from her hospital bed). Special thanks were extended to Anne McMaster ZL3VR a long time member of the Executive and at times the lone voice from the South Island who has during the year been instrumental in promoting our activities at Amateur Radio Expo 1992. She was wished well as she now gives her experience to a bigger and brighter future with NZART's National Council. A birthday cake made by Anne ZL3VR and cut by Celia ZL1ALK and Zelda ZL3AAB was a treat for morning tea. Special 30th Anniversary plaques donated by our Patron were a bonus for the 3 section winners of the Thelma Souper Memorial Contest - Dawn ZL2AGX, Alex Learmond ZL1BVK and Pat Raven VK4PT.

Youth encouragement:
In an effort to promote and encourage the younger people in our hobby a 12 month subscription was awarded to both 11 year old Alice Boyes ZL3UJX of Greymouth and Adele Pope ZL1TMD from Pukekohe who recently passed the AOC examinations.

Silent Key:
It was with regret we recorded in December the passing of Ruth Lobb ZL3PL of Greymouth. Licensed in 1961, she was a WARO Foundation member and long time net control for the South Island 80m net. Ruth was also very active in local Branch affairs and was made a Life Member of the Reefton/Buller Radio Club during 1990.

Bulletin:
A new editor - some new ideas, and with the December issue Jeanne ZL4JG included 4 centre pages of member photographs. Jeanne and daughter Dianne Watkins ZL2USO were approached to produce new membership cards, and also the new Bulletin cover design which was to appear in March 1995.
