This routes starts from the layby on the A66 opposite the pub at Scales (Grid ref NY343268). Cross the road to the pub and turn right down the lane (some more car parking here) at (NY348272) go through the gate on your left which just before Comb Beck and turn left onto the path that will take you up by Mousthwaite Comb.

As you continue up take the path going left at (NY346278) and this will then take you onto the Scales Fell path at (NY343277) follow this up to Scales Tarn at (NY329281) then follow the path to the left to take you up to Sharp Edge. From the top of the edge (NY325283) the path goes left across the saddle to the top of Blencathra, (NY323277) following on to Knowe Crags (NY311270) the route then goes down Blease Fell taking the left fork at (NY306260) carry on this path crossing Blease Gill at (NY316260) now heading towards Gate gill, (NY323263) and onto Doddick Gill, NY(330265) now onto and crossing Scaley Beck and at (NY340268) turn right and go down to the A66 back to the pub.
