Some time ago I decided to have a go a putting an electric winch on my Strumech HD 18 metre tower in order to make it easy to winch up and down as the orignal auto braked manual winch needed replacement.

Strumech electric winches are very expensive and after a lot of searching came across a website that would do a kit based on the 12 volts series Superwinch ( those used on 4x4 etc).

As I had all the necessary bits to do this job myself and a VAT free sale card to Machine Mart I decided that I would buy an S-5000 12 volt superwich from them and save a few quid.

I have powered mine from a Hawker C11 (92 Ah sealed battery) and trickle charge it from a couple of cheap solar panels from Maplin. These have come into their sales on occaision at £9.99 each.

This system has been working for just over twelve months now with no problems..
