Walking Gear

Walking boots, there is so much choice today firstly leather or fabric? I went for leather and a british boot manufacturer!

The boot that I decided upon was the Alt-Berg Fremmington, these boots besides coming in half sizes come in five width fittings as well so you should get a boot that fits correctly. These boots caused me no problems straight from the box. Bought them on the Wednesday and did an eight and half miler on the Thursday and a thirteen mile walk on the Sunday and doing a seventeen mile walk over the moors around Winter Hill the following Sunday. A very good boot in my opinion and some might say a bit pricey at £125.00
(2009 prices), but when you concider that these boots will last you many years.

I did see one review on the internet that stated these boots were only fit for low level walks which in my opinion is total rubbish. I have done many ridge walks including Tryfan by the north ridge route, which a lot of it is grade 1 scambling. I had no problems from the boots.

Another plus with these boots is that if you do wear out the soles Alt-Berg will resole them for about £40.00 (price @2009)

Socks.

Bridgedales are highly recommended especially the Endurance Trekker. http://www.bridgedale.com/Products/Outdoor/
