Statewide Hospital Exercise
  • LA County conducted the 2022 Medical Response and Surge Exercise
  • Functional exercise designed to examine and evaluate the ability of Healthcare Coalitions and other stakeholders to support medical surge for a radiological event.
  • Amateurs provide backup communications from hospitals to the County Medical Alert Center as well as to local EOCs as needed
  • DCS works in collaboration with ARES LAX  operators

Election Night Support - Torrance
  • Our four-person team at the Torrance helicopter landing zone on a rainy Election Night accounted for 72 ballot boxes sent via the site.

The Great California Shakeout
  • We appreciated all DCS members who participated in last week's Great ShakeOut exercise, whether on Thursday's voice/NBEMS side or Saturday's Winlink exercise.
  • We exchanged traffic with the cities of Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, and Torrance (the latter at both their main EOC and Torrance Airport alternate EOC) as well as with Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance.

Election Night Support - Torrance

  • All of the regular heliports were activated.
  • Thanks to Gary T-222, Cindy T-223, Jeff T-234, and Diana S-60 excellent Election Night support at Torrance helping us get an accurate account of the ballot boxes we processed. 
  • There have been no questions about any of our boxes (despite that one unmarked box with no bar code label that was our 40th box on Flight #1). 
  • Save November 8th for the General Election support

DCS Quarterly Training
  • Thank you to our members who attended the virtual DCS Quarterly Training. 
  • Three subjects were covered: 1) operating the DCS Countywide Monday Night Net; 2) Evaluating RF exposure when operating mobile or portable; and 3) ICS forms for DCS...familiar ones and some new ones.
  • The presentations on Monday Night Net operation and DCS ICS Forms will be posted on the DCS website in the Members Only section.

DCS County-wide Drill
  • Thank you to all who participated in Saturday's Countywide communication exercise via either the South L.A. or Lomita DCS radio rooms. 
  • We appreciated the DCS-213 messages that members transmitted and we relayed to the SCC those messages seeking County or other agency resources. 
  • Our apologies to members in San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula's west side who were unable to communicate due to the 440 Rolling Hills repeater atop San Pedro Hill being stuck in DMR-only mode.

  • 37th running of the Los Angeles Marathon  starting at Dodger Stadium and finishing on the Avenue of the Stars in Century City
  • Amateurs staff the water stations, medical aid stations, the start and finish lines, and the Incident Command Post.

Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K/5K
  • Activity RequestAssignments;
    After Action Report; Sign-In Sheet
  • Our public service coverage of the Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday 10K/5K, supporting the City of Redondo Beach, went well as an effective disaster communications field training activity. 
  • Operators reported several medical incidents requiring first responders. 
  • DCS members participating:
    • Deane, Staff 50; Diana, Staff 60; Ray, T-88; Steve, T-227; Jeff, T-230; and Jeff, T-234, from the Lomita Station
    • Bob, N-01, and Steve, N-109, from the Lakewood Station
  • Our team also consisted of several Redondo Beach and Torrance operators.
  • We also thank the Palos Verdes Estates Neighborhood Amateur Radio Team for the use of their excellent repeater.
