The 2018 Los
Angeles County Medical and Health Exercise
scenario is a radiological “dirty bomb” event. A
dirty bomb
(also known as a Radiological Dispersal Device, or RDD) combines a
conventional explosive, such as dynamite, with radioactive material.
Hospitals may be contacting their local cities and/or
Sheriff Stations via amateur radio in addition to status reporting to
the Medical Alert Center

disaster amateur radio equipment at 23 school sites on the Palos Verdes
Peninsula

The Lomita Fair originated in 1982 and has since
become a
popular annual event and one of the largest and longest running fairs
in the Los Angeles Area.
The Deputy in charge of the event went out of his way
to
express his appreciation to DCS for our professional and competent hard
work. He said that we are written into the plan for next year
Amateur radio's annual Field Day demonstrating how
hams provide emergency communication with portable power runs from 1100
hours Saturday, June 23, to 1100 hours Sunday, June 24 (with setup
before and take-down afterwards).
Districts 3 & 17 members were known to have
been at
Field Day sites of the Palos Verdes ARC; South Bay ARC; Hughes ARC; and
W6TRW RC.
Special Olympics Southern California enriches the
lives of more than 34,500 athletes with intellectual disabilities
through sports, education, and
athlete health.
About 10 additional amateur radio operators are
needed.
The California Governor’s Office of
Emergency
Services, Southern Region, hosted the 2018 RACES/ACS/EmComm Radio
Rodeo on May 5.
The event conducted radio
tests
among RACES/ACS Mobile Communications Assets within
each Operational
Area and with adjoining participating Operational Areas of the Southern
Region and with the Southern Region EOC in Los Alamitos to verify
their inter-agency interoperability via amateur frequencies.
Jerry, T-03; Bob, T-22; and Cynthia,
T-220, operated from the Lomita Station's rear parking lot.
Additionally Mike, T-109, and Wendy, T-120, worked
with
Diana, S-60, at Carson City Hall assisting Carson DCS while Dale, T-57,
checked in for the City of Rancho Palos Verdes.
We need addtional such exercises to facilitate the
ability
to provide mutual aid emergency communications up and down the disaster
response chain of command.

The MACC was located at the City of Los Angles EOC
Activated at Stage II
LA City ACS was activated as part of the EOC
activation
Portable repeater with crosslink remote radio used
for the MACC to access operatiors on the course via the main 440
repeater.
