  • Emergency communication is one of the convention's four program tracks. 
  • L.A. County DCS will be speaking at a session along with our equivalent radio groups from Orange and San Bernardino Counties. 
  • A LASD Mobile Communications Unit will be displayed outside the hotel along with other emcomm vehicles. .

  • Diana , T-01; Stuart, T-61 and Larry, T-152 staffed the L.A. County DCS booth shared with Gardena DCS at the City of Gardena's Emergency Preparedness Fair 
  • Gary, T-222, and Cindy, T-223, were also at the Emergency Preparedness Fair all day working in other capacities
  • Among the visitors to our radio communication display were Gardena's Police Chief Ed Medrano and California State Assembly member David Hadley, whose 66th Assembly District covers most of the South Bay cities
  • Twenty DCS Brochures were handed out to potential members

  • Mobile Communications Unit Deployments 
  • Serving at our location were: Diana T-01, Bob, T-22; Dale, T-57; Deane, Staff 50; Larry, T-152; Mike, T-100;  and Norm, T-219.. 
  • Special thanks go to Dale, T-57, for facilitating COMEX use of his church's property and to Larry, T-152, for bringing his military surplus 20-watt HF manpack radio.
  • The 20w manpack was more effective than MCU-4 100w Barrett because of the vehicle's ignition noise.

Islands on the Air DXpetition NA-066 Catalina
- Other Hours

  • Participating this year were: Bob, T-22; Chris, formerly Staff 66; Diana, T-01; Joe, T-25; Norm, T-219 and Ray, T-88, the Dxpedition leader
  • The team hauled nearly 1,500 pounds of gear (including food and supplies) to set up three HF
    stations at Two Harbors
  • Re-evaluated plans because of a major winter storm
  • Joe, T-25, along with a member of Palos Verdes Estates' NART radio group, made history in ham
    radio's "Summits On The Air" program as the first amateur operators to make HF contacts from Catalina Island's 1,800-foot Silver Peak after an eight-mile hike.
