successful DCS
exhibit inside the Norris Pavilion. All our new DCS brochures
were taken by attendees and several ham operators at the
Expo expressed interest in DCS. Thanks go to our
exhibit

. Bob, T-22 assisted from his post at the adjacent Palos Verdes
Peninsula CERT exhibit, Diana Staff 60 assisted from her position
as a Commissioner for the City of RPV. Larry, Z-02 and Dick Staff 3,
also worked at the Expo in connection with LASD MCU 2
displayed
outside.

Annual Meeting in Rosemead
- The featured speaker was Reserve Deputy Dave Little
of San
Dimas Station's Mountain Search & Rescue which frequently
deploys
with DCS to find lost or injured hikers and motorists in the
San
Gabriel Mountains.
- Certificates were distributed to members accruing 350
hours or more in 2016
- One thousand hour pins
were awarded to Bob T-95, Wendy T-120 and Bob T-165.
Staff 60 will get her 5000 hour pin
at a special County-wide cermony
in April

Radio Society of Great Britain's Island on the Air
Program DXpetition to Catalina
- Emergency
operations training under field conditions
- Jerry, T-03; Ray, T-88 (team leader); Diana S-60; and
Hugo, a DCS member from Temple Station, comprised half of
the Palos Verdes Amateur Radio Club team for the five-day
operation at Two Harbors on Catalina
- The team carried 1,200 pounds of gear, assembed three
HF stations
and made over 1,100 contacts--despite high winds and rain--including
working Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific on four different bands
using CW.
- The team also competed in the challenging CQ
Worldwide 160-meter SSB contest using a 268-foot long wire dipole.
