Six Meter VHF-FM: "The Magic Band" For Southwest Missouri updates and happenings; the Joplin Amateur Radio Club website is a start for more information. 6m locals can often be found on 52.525 MHz and 52.49 MHz simplex, and they have a weekly "net".

Learn more about their cousins, the hurricane, at this NOAA site. It has some links to a good FAQ on hurricanes, cyclones and tornadoes.
You can fly a virtual mission into the eye of a hurricane from the website of my old friends the Hurricane Hunters, who used to be real good at documenting flown covers from their missions. The "good stuff" is a ways inside after entering!
