Post offices were established on board ships of the "Great White Fleet" in 1908, and there are still post offices aboard most ships today. A group of specialized cover collectors carry on a tradition of obtaining postmarks and other artifacts of postal history from U.S. and foreign Naval and Coast Guard vessels.

A fine vessel, which seems to be a favorite of mine for some reason :) ...the United States Ship THORN, DD-988, a destroyer of rare form.   Link to a picture of this vessel, which is now lying at the bottom of the ocean. (Tears)
