DCS Annual Meeting

Santa Clarita Sheriff Station
  • The LASD Homicide Bureau will be the guest speaker at this year's DCS Annual Meeting 
  • CFMB deputies and DCS staff are excited to have members together in one place
  • Lunch will be provided by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Foundation, which is hosting a taco truck-catered lunch on the station patio
  • "This event honors significant hours milestones of select DCS members while honoring the work of all our DCS volunteers. The department appreciates the commitment to service we hear on the air every week," said Sgt. Daniel Hoyos.

  • We are also looking for any members willing to drive a carpool between the Lomita and Santa Clarita Sheriff Stations that day.

  • Objective - To contact as many stations as possible on the 160-, 80-, 40-, 20-,15- and 10-Meter HF bands, as well as all bands 50 MHz and above, and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions.

  • Torrance's Armed Forces Day Parade has the distinction of being the nation's longest running military parade sponsored by any city

Los Angeles Marathon
- Other Hours
  • The 39th running of the Los Angeles Marathon went from Dodger Stadium and finished on the Avenue of the Stars in Century City
  • Amateurs staff the water stations, medical aid stations the finish line, and the Multi-agency Command Center at the LA City EOC 
  • There were 6 DCS Members who participated:

Countywide Drill  0900 - 1300
  • Scenario was Solar Flare Activity disrupting radio communications, affecting satellite communication, power grid, etc. 
  • A request for search and rescue assistance took some members out of the drill
  • Operating modes were voice, NBEMS and Winlink.
  • Command post at SCC Trailer A instead of SBI

Election Night Support - Torrance Landing Zone
  • Thanks go to our operator team (Diana, S-60; Deane, S-50; Gary, T-222; Cindy, T-223; Jeff, T-230; and Jeff, T-234) at the Primary Election Night ballot transport operation in Torrance. 
  • We reported to Torrance Airport at the address shown in DCS Election Night instructions but found no LASD activity there. 
  • Team members discovered on their own the actual site was four miles away at the Torrance Courthouse parking lot where this activity has historically been
  • The rest of us then travelled there for a successful operation.
