Operating Positions

There were four operating positions at the station: the Main Watch position, the VHF position, the RTTY position, and the Novice position. The Novice position was mostly used for transient gear that members brought in from time to time. I remember it having a 75S-1 receiver, but not much else. My main interest at the time was RTTY so you may detect a bit more detail in that area.

This is the RTTY position before we got the model 28 machines. It had an HT37 transmitter, a 75A4 rcvr, a URA-8 RTTY demod, two model 15 page printers, a 14 reperf, and a 14 TD.

The VHF position. Six and two meter ground planes and beams were available. We had an Ameco TX62 and an RBC-5 for six meters and a Navy TDQ and an RBC-1 for two meters. I didn't use the VHF station, I just got the equipment list from the RTTY brag tape :-)

A view of the VHF position at a different time. I do recognize the RTTY gear though: a URA-8 RTTY demod, a 28KTR typing reperf, and the 28 TD.

We had a code practice position in the back room for members who were attempting to get their license. Looks like one of the tape machines exploded!

The main watch position. It had an R-4A receiver, a T-4XB transmitter, an NCL-2000 amp, a Collins 312B-4 station console, and a Hy-Gain rotator control.

This is the RTTY position after we got the Model 28 TTY gear but before we got the R-390.

Another view of the main watch position.

Racks of test equipment in the back room.
