During my stay on TI, the ham club was located in Bldg 318 which was situated on the long westerly shore of the island about 2/3 of the way up from the main gate. The building was demolished soon after I left, but the memories linger. As the photos show, it was quite large. The main operating area had room for about four operating positions: Watch, Novice, RTTY, and VHF. There was also a large back room which served as a lab for building all manner of projects. Behind that was a lounge area with a TV, a reefer, and the head. Was there a rack in there too?
Above is a view of building 318 from up on the tower. Note the various antenna and tower parts on the ground. At the right edge is the base of our full size quarter wave vertical for 40 m. That's my '57 Ford next to the road.
The sign on the east side of building 318
A view of the shack from the base of the tower. Note the 6 and 2 meter beams. And the armchair on the roof!
A long shot of the east side of the shack from across the field. In addition to the tower, the 40m vertical, the 6m beam and the 2m beam are visible.
Looking down from atop the tower. Look at all the insulators in that guy wire!
