My Equipment

My new HF rig is a FT-847. It runs 160-10meters, 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70cm. I took it with me on the family vacation to Colorado. Made a very nice little padded mobile mounting bracket that slips over the seat. Highly universal. I have made a few contacts on it but mostly listen and also been real busy with school starting and work. So I sleep when I would be on the HF. The TS-520 sits very close by just incase. :) Yay it is 14.5 lbs.

My old HF rig is a TS-570 from the late 70's. I purchased it as the second owner. I got a deal on it because I plan on keeping it for awhile. Has setimental value. It cover the 10,15,20,40,80 meter bands. It has an analog dial and has a built in power supply. It houses two final tubes that allow the rig to output ~200 watts PEP on SSB and ~180watts on CW. On top of the radio is a Radio Shack SWR meter that is rated at 1.5KW. The micophone is some unknown model of the Shure brand. And the radio weighs approximately 37.4 lbs.

Next on the list is my Icom 207H dual band mobile. It has an output of 50watts on 2 meter and 35 on 70 cm. It has remote head capability and I like this specific radio. On top of the radio is my KPC-3. I use it on 2 meter packet radio and I built the cable for the radio/tnc connection out of a old motherboard and a Radio Shack free barcode scanner connector.

Next is my Icom W32A dual band handheld. I like this radio becasue it does 5 watts and it can cross band repeat. I bought a antenna for it that has more gain than the rubber ducky. The radio has 2 power settings, 5W and 500mW. It does get hot if you use the 5W setting for a prolonged period. But this is understandable.

And the rest of equipment is composed of many peices of working test equipment that I have gathered over the years. I have a HP oscillioscope that works but I do not have the manual. So I learned by just trying things. I reccommed that everyone who is serious about radio should get one, even if it is a used one, because they are very useful and universal tools. I already told you about the other stuff I have. My scanner gets Newberg police and fire so I am set to do lots of fun stuff. 300 memories and a older unblocked unit. Received it as payment for working on a family members well. So it works good for me. Lovely what you can hear in the 900MHz. band... :)
