Computer Stuff
If you don't like over-clocking...or don't understand the concept...or want to just complain about what I do...quit wasting our time by using web space to post your uneducated comments about a subject you shouldn't even be attempting to conceive. Go throw parts at something you don't understand and get out of my face...
Well back in the day, I built my computer, and now it is better, faster, stronger, and a LOT warmer...specifications:
My compy-
-Pentium 4 2.4Ghz. (stock)
-Abit IS7-G (553/800Mhz FSB) (stock)
-512Megs of DDR 400
-Gainward Pro/450 TV w/ 64Megs of DDR & TV out (GF4 MX-420)
-Enermax (I think) CS-305 Case with 5 Fan Spaces and window
-Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480W Power Supply (variable fans)
-Lite-On 24x10x40 CD Burner
-Iceberg 1 Water-cooling
-Hard drive cooler (hooked into the watercooling)
100Gig Western Digital 8MB buffer 7200RPM
-7 Fans total in the case, 4 are variable speed
The most recent picture of my computer, taken a few weeks back when I had it apart to add in the hard drive cooler, and now power supply. It is quite messy, which is why I am thinking of using some of the flex tube to put things in order. The new round IDE cables helped a lot though.
What the computer looks like with the cathodes on...and my air injection now 'clean' fix =)
This is the newest addition to the system, cold air injection! (Installed during the 2004 January snow storm) I love dryer duct!
This is what I currently use for a fan, my electrostatic air cleaner. It moves enough air to keep the compy happy. Hopefully I can replace it with a small, quiet squirrel cage fan.
The old motherboard and watercooling
Here is the heart of the cooling system. Moves something like 50gal per min I think. Not too bad. Its all sealed up good but I had a little problem with the gasket under the fitting where the wire comes in...but I think its fixed now. Its wired into the power supply right to the on/off switch that is on the back of the PC for motherboard all power off. That way it HAS to be on for the PC to be turned on.
Overclocking-
3.1Ghz...that's the record so far...system bus at 688.89Mhz as compared to 533Mhz stock...I normally run 2.95Ghz from the stock 2.4 since I need to redo my heat sink grease...
Cooling-
Temps are high(er) lately, however the addition of the outdoor air injection helps with things a lot. Temps idle around 50 degrees C at full load at about 3Ghz...so not too terrible but if I did a decent greasing job...I could do better...just got lazy last time...and my A3S was old...inside the case temps are in the low twenties (C).
Drives-
I have an 100Gig hard drive with 2 partitions. Also want to get a DVD drive for this since I do occasionally watch a DVD or two.
Monitor-
Got a new(er) one...Sony Trinitron Multiscan 200SX from a friend at dad's work. He got a brand new dell setup and gave me the P1 and this 17inch monitor...it works fine for me...45lbs though...is the down side =)
Cabling-
I think I will put some of that flex tube that they use on car wiring harnesses since I have rolls of it floating around the garage. .
Sound-
Yea the speakers work...4 speaker surround with a sub...works fine and was cheap.
Video-
This GFX card works fine...runs C & C Generals decently...
Peripherals-
I have a new keyboard and my good old cordless rechargeable mouse still plugs away...going a week or two on a charge
Time to do some more LAN ing....lots of college/school stuff to do though sadly..
Perhaps one later this year?
