Hi Meadow Lesson 1

Never take access to your home for granted; keep a ready-kit in your vehicle.

I know this is rather self-explanatory, but how many of us just bring, perhaps, an HT to work in the briefcase, maybe along with the mobile in the car? I would've killed for a mobile in the Jeep, but I don't have one just yet. And carrying a bunch of extra gear into work gets a bit cumbersome.

While I only park at the bus stop a few miles down the road, there was a vast difference in conditions between Pine Junction and Bailey, at the time. Being unable to get home meant that my meager 9.6V, 600mah HT battery had to live through the night. Fortunately, another ham arrived on the scene with a power supply, and I hacked my cigaretter-lighter-adapter apart to attach to the binding posts of his MFJ distribution panel. If it weren't for him, I would have been stuck as a passive, and in the way, participator.
