Everything but the kitchen sink
When I turned on my computer the other day I heard a sound like a buzz saw operating in my computer case, also I had alarm sounds going off and noticed that my mobo temp was climbing upwards. I think I had the idea that it was time to buy a solution to my cheap chipset fan. I then planed to replace the chip set fan on my northbridge, with a passive heat sink so I would not have another cheap fan go south on me again, I got me a ZM_NB47J
ZM-NB47J does not require a fan, thus does not need to be powered, and does not generate noise or vibration.
2. The Northbridge chipset can be cooled to an optimal temperature without generation of noise.
3. You can adjust the direction while in installation. So you can prevent the interference with CPU Coolers and other components.
Bottoms up, THE MOBO THAT IS
To install this puppy properly I had to remove the motherboard from the case, that means disassemble the whole computer just to release the pushpins under the mobo.
- Remove cables - internal and external to PC case
- Check access to rear of PC mainboard
- Remove PC chassis fan
- Remove PC mainboard from case
- Remove retaining pegs from chipset fan / heatsink
This is what it looks like when installed, see the blue heatsink looks a bit metallic purple.
Well the heatsink is hot to the touch I guess that it's sinking heat. and my mobo temps a 2C cooler without the fan. the Temperature probe reads at 37C and 38C under load. I have a 120mm fan in front of the case to gulp air in the case and on to the chipset heatsink.
This is what the ZM_NB47J replaced.
This is the crap that the passive heatsink replaced do you think that A
SUS could have spent a few cents on the chipset fan?
Ok that it folk's I spared you the grim pictures of disassembly and applying thermal paste and putting the whole thing back together and all that stuff. So keep in mind this heatsink if your chipset fan goes south and it uses push pins to secure the Fan.
