SHACK

Welcome to my shack

My station is a simple setup witch includes a ic-746pro, ts-450s, ic-2710h and a ts-2000 with assorted accessories and hts. I don't have room or the height for large antennas, but that doesn't stop me from working the world! The antennas I use are portable. I use a MFJ-1786 10 to 30 meter loop with remote control head. And for lower frequencies I have a 35 foot wire fed with one of my home brew 4 to 1 un-un's and a sg-239 coupler to a 35 foot loop. This is good for 10 to 40 meters.

Whats in the shack now

This is the current shack, well maybe I have updated it a few times. I'm still not certain on how I want the layout yet but the set up is to be somewhat small and portable if that's possible at all. I can't keep up all the time with new additions or changes although I keep additions to that shack to a minimum. The radios are fed with a random longwire with a SGC-239 at the feed point, and a MFJ loop 10-30 meters with remote control unit.

New addition to the shack ts-2000.

Kenwood TS-2000 is an all band HF/VHF/UHF transceiver with exceptional features and versatility. Wide band Main HF reception includes: 30 kHz-60 MHz. On VHF/UHF you get: 142-152 and 420-450 MHz. 1240-1300 MHz is featured in the TS-2000X model. Sub band (AM/FM modes only) reception includes: 118-174, 220-512 MHz. Output is 100 watts on HF, 6 meters and 2 meters. 50 watts for 440 MHz. A built-in TCXO ensures excellent stabililty

UN-UN and balun projects

I needed to find a way to lower the impedance at the feed point of my random wire running out of my window connected via unbalanced cable to radio (50 ohm coax). The only way to do this was to employ a auto tuner at the feed point!, there's another way!. The unun will do the trick. And is less expensive.

1.5 KW models can also be made using larger toroides contained in a metal housing. Lower watt models contained in Tupperware

A few finished projects are compact 300 watt models that are weather proof to boot. I also made the same type as a 4.1 balun, picture not shown.300 watt UN-UN Tupperware model

Un-un's are great for portable shorted vertical antennas, example using a commercial 28 foot fishing pole that is mounted on a tripod, or just ground mounted.
