MODULE II - OPERATING PROCEDURES

  • INTRODUCTION

Amateur radio through the years had develop a number of operating standards and procedures. Some of these are borrowed from other services, such as commercial or military. Some have been coined by amateurs for our particular use, as a part of "ham jargon." Still others have been innovated by the hams to fulfill a need. All of these together make up a standard of operating procedures for amateurs differing, at least in part, from the procedures used in any other radio service. We hams are a service; we aren't just a bunch of licensed operators randomly pursuing a hobby. We have standard procedures. If we all use different procedures, we will have difficulty at times, in communicating with each other. If we all use the same procedures, we will communicate effectively. So, let's all use the same standards. Let's be a single, organized operating service.

Whether or not you have passed the exam or have been issued with a license or begged and borrowed, or otherwise acquired a radio transceiver, amateur radio clubs require their members to observe and apply the Operating Procedures which is a part of Club Policy.

This Module will introduce you to the Radio Operating Procedures of C.I.R.C.L.E. 5. It is aimed to give beginners the basic knowledge and guide before they go on air. With some little modification, similar procedures are also used by other amateur radio clubs. Many of the materials in the following pages appear in amateur radio operator licensure examinations given by the National Telecommunicatons Commission. It is suggested that you copy/save the pages to your disk for reading or printing later. Good luck.
