PC/FlexNet drivers and applications by Thomas Sailer

If you haven't yet looked at the official FlexNet homepage http://dl0td.afthd.th-darmstadt.de/~flexnet/index.html, go there first! Also look at http://dl0td.afthd.th-darmstadt.de/~flexnet/downld.html and read the licensing conditions!

Hardware Drivers:

Since I got many questions on how to connect PTT using DSP and Soundcard drivers, I've made an overview that can be viewed here

The drivers have been last updated April 2nd, 1997

The AX.25 Packet Driver.
This driver allows *NOS and other software containing an AX.25 stack to interface directly to PC/FlexNet

The DG1SCR DSP Board Driver.
This driver supports Hürgen Hasch's (DG1SCR) DSP board with the TMS320C25. It supports 1200 baud AFSK and 9600 baud FSK operation.

The TMS320C26 DSP Starters Kit Driver.
This driver supports Texas Instruments TMS320C26 DSP Starters Kit. This is a cheap DSP hardware. It supports 1200 baud AFSK and 9600 baud FSK operation.

The TMS320C50 DSP Starters Kit Driver.
This driver supports Texas Instruments TMS320C50 DSP Starters Kit. This is a cheap DSP hardware, and it is the successor of the TMS320C26 DSK. It supports 1200 baud AFSK and 9600 baud FSK operation.

The Analog Devices' EZKIT Lite Driver.
This driver supports Analog Devices' EZKIT Lite. It supports one EZKIT per driver, which can in turn support two independent channels at either 1200 baud AFSK or 9600 baud FSK. The EZKIT Lite is a cheap DSP hardware. Warning! This is ALPHA code! Note: This driver requires a small hardware modification to the EZKIT lite board. Details can be found here.

The AXIP encapsulation driver.
This driver attaches itself to a preloaded ethernet packet driver. It allows PC/FlexNet to connect over ethernet to unix boxes running an AX.25 stack such as WAMPES, TNOS, KA9Q NET or Linux Kernel AX.25. It is however not designed to handle internet wormhole links, since it does not implement IP fragmentation and it has very limited ICMP support.

The PSA Soundcard Driver.
This driver supports soundcards using Analog Devices PSA (Personal Sound Architecture) chipset. This chipset consists of the ADSP2115, the ECHO ESC614 or ESC615 and an AD1848 or CS4248 codec. These cards feature a modern onboard signal processor, which reliefs the host CPU from much work. It supports 1200 baud AFSK and 9600 baud FSK operation. This package also contains diagnostic applications which allow you to send calibration patterns, display eye diagrams and count bit errors.

The PC Soundcard Modem Drivers.
These drivers support PC soundcards which are either compatible to the Windows Sound System or the SoundBlaster pseudo standards. It supports 1200 baud AFSK and 9600 baud FSK operation. Since these sound cards are "dumb" (i.e. they do not contain any computing resources), the main processor has to do all the signal processing work. It therefore has to be a 486 or better. The driver does not run under OS half. The package contains diagnostics tools. Note: this package contains the programs that were previously in three different packages, namely sblast, wss and sndutil. The installation of the Windows95 version is documented here.

Applications:

TheFirmware Emulator.
This application allows you to use common Hostmode software with PC/FlexNet, if it supports a TFPC or DRSI interface. Many DOS/Windows packet radio applications support this type of interface, for example:
Terminal programs
DX Clusters
Mailboxes

Ethernet Packet Driver Emulator.
This application offers an ethernet packet driver interface. It allows standard TCP/IP applications of non-ham origin to make IP over AX.25. As AX.25 segmentation is not supported by many digipeater systems (FlexNet being an exception!), it is not utilized and the stack must be configured for an MTU of 216 (if there are no NET/WRONG digipeaters around, you may set the MTU to 256).
