History The MASR Amateur Radio Station was finished by the Morris Radio Club and donated to Camp Somers along with its contents in 1992. A complete history is in the workings. If you have any stories or information that you would like to share or contribute, please submit to the Station Manager. 1992 * Dedication 2008 * July 8, 2008 - last station logbook entry. 2013 * New Radio Station Manager appointed. * Radio station maintenance, cleaning, inventory, equipment upgrades. * Station not ready in time for Field Day. * Replaced old tri-band antenna with new Comet (2/220/440) * Bought and attached tri-plexer for above tri-band antenna. * July 2, 2013 - Back on the air! * First Radio Merit Badge recipient of the year: James from Troop#141. Makes 9 contacts! * Registered/participated in JOTA 2013. * Installed 220 TYT Radio. * Repair work done by George N2ELC on the exterior to remove rotted wood. * Door repaired and new security window installed. * Updated alarm system. 2014 * Registered/participated in JOTA 2014. * George, N2ELC returns to make a secured enclosure for the APRS Weather Station console. * Installed Davis Weather Instruments equipment in shack and on tower. 2015 * Registered/participated in JOTA 2015. * Entered VHF/UHF ARRL Contest. 2016 * While still sturdy, the mice, mildew and small space warrants a new shack. * The 80’ tower sustained damaged and the Yagi elements are bent. * All the coax is over 25 years old and need to be replaced. * A new inverted V antenna is installed on the tower. * Registered/participated in JOTA 2016. 2017 - 2018 * Business as usual. Radio station open to cub/boy scout troops throughout the year. * Summer camp yields dozen of Radio Merit Badges and a few prospective Amateur Radio Licenses. * Partnership with Trexler Scout Reservation (W3TSR) creates a packet link from NJ - PA. * JOTA Participation each year in October. * Updated Radio Merit Badge requirements now allow for Foxmitter Hunts which are a BIG hit with the scouts! 2019 * Chaired the Special Event Station for BSA Jersey Jam 2019 - Saturday, October 5, 2019 * Registered/participated in JOTA 2019. 2020 * Registered/participated in Field Day 2020. * Registered/participated in JOTA 2020. * Efforts to acquire a new shack and tower are thwarted by the Corona Virus Pandemic. 2021 * Registered/participated in Field Day 2021. * Registered/participated in JOTA 2021. 2022 * Registered/participated in Field Day and JOTA. 2023 * Registered/participated in Field Day and JOTA. 2024 Setting up new AX.25 packet node and mailbox to continue building Scout Packet Network.
