What is Parks on the Air?
Why do it as a club?
Parks on the Air is an international award program the encourages amateur radio operators to visit public lands and parks, and to set up portable communication stations to initiate contacts.  POTA promotes emergency communications awareness and communications from state and federal lands. It originated from an ARRL sponsored program to encourage Ham Radio operators to visit and operate from every US national park in a celebration of the 110th anniversary of the founding on Yellowstone National Park.

You register at http://pota.app to get started.  There is no cost to do Parks On The Air.

There are activators and hunters.  The activator logs the contacts and must make at least 10 contacts to count as an activation.  POTA can be done on HF SSB, FT8/FT4, VHF/UHF as long as it's simplex based.

Operating is more fun as a group.  Perhaps you don't have a portable setup?  Maybe you aren't totally sure about operating out in the "wild"?

Some of the club members have been active in POTA and have the experience and are willing to help others.

We can do groups of 2 or more.

One of the nice things is that if we operate as the club, you can use the priveledges of a higher class if there is a higher class operator there (ie, if your a technician, but an extra class licensee is there, you can use extra class portions of the band).

We can also do a group activation with multiple radios and multiple call signs.  We can use the club call sign and each person in the group can log that contact as well on the pota.app website.
