The Bird under construction

Fuel System

The spare tire well will be cut out, and made square, and 6 inchs wider than the fuel cell and 6 inchs longer. The fuel filter and fuel pump will be mounted along the outside, and the supply and return will both go on the passenger side and be run to the front of the car. There will be a aluminum partition put at the rear of the back seat.

The new carburator will have a fuel log mounted to it with a return system pressure regulator at the rear of it. The supply line will feed at the front, and the return line will run off the rear.

Several guys have asked me why I was using a return type fuel system. Well, I decided to provide a link to a very good information site that covers it VERY well.

Lots of good graphics showing the best way to do it, and why. Click here

The fuel lines in this area have to be insulated, then a heat shield placed over it to protect it from the heat from the right side exhaust that will exit on the side in front of the rear wheel. A heat shiels will also be placed on the top of the muffler and short tail pipe.

This is the supply line going to the front of the fuel log, and the return going back to the cell.

The above is my new carb with the Lokar throttle
cable, mounting bracket, and TV cable installed.

Quickfuel Technoligy Professional Series 750 CFM Drag Carburator

The fuel system is a return type that sends a large amount of fuel to the carburator fuel log. A return system regulator is located on the end of the log, and all fuel above the set point of the regulator is returned to the fuel cell. This keeps cool fuel at the carburator inlet at all times.
