Need to Move the Steering Shaft out of the way.

Engine Bay Showing Stock Steering Shaft

The Steering Shaft as from the Factory

Steering Shaft Changed with support Bearing near mid area

E Mail received from Flaming River today, Oct 3:

Dear Bruce, The pictures did not come out very well, but we went to the website and found them. Nice project! Looks like you'll need a three u-joint system, with two shafts, and a support bearing. The shafting would be 3/4in. in diameter, while the u-joints are 1 1/2in. in diameter. What we will need to know,is the diameter and spline counts of the column and box(rack&pinion). We'll also need to know the distance between the end of the column and the rack. Our 3/4dd shaft is easier to work with, and would probably be the way to go. It is also available in polished stainless. Best Regards, Tech Dept. Flaming River Ind. 800-648-8022

We have to either go through them, or around them.

With some changes, headers like these would work

These are BBK 1 3/4 Swap Headers. With the Steering Mod,
they work great with a 5 speed or C4, but not with a AOD.

This is the Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 351 Swap Headers 6223-hkr

These have the rear tubes with a slip fit joint near the bottom. This will allow easy modifying this tube as needed, then have them ceramic coated.

These type headers should work by routing the steering shaft through the headers or routing the shaft closer to the frame rail to make room.
