Programming your D-STAR radio for the KH6HPZ B repeater - 442.000 MHz

July 1, 2012, updated Aug 11, 2012

Information for programming your D-STAR radio for use on the KH6HPZ B repeater. This assumes you're already registered to use D-STAR through the gateway.

To program your radio to link to other DSTAR repeaters (or reflectors). Assume you want to link to K1AAA repeater, Port B. Assume your call sign is KH6AAA. You program three consecutive memories. This example uses M10, M11 and M12. Each asterisk (*) represents a blank. The letters in position 7 and position 8 are very important, to be sure to include the blanks to maintain the proper positions.

Purpose Memory
Channel
Frequency Duplex Mode UR Call RPT1 RPT2 MYCALL
Use this memory channel to initiate the link to repeater K1AAA Port B M10 442.000 DUP (Plus) DV K1AAA*BL KH6HPZ*B KH6HPZ*G KH6AAA
Use this memory channel to talk to stations on the KH6HPZ B and K1AAA A repeaters. M11 442.000 DUP (Plus) DV CQCQCQ KH6HPZ*B KH6HPZ*G KH6AAA
Use this memory channel to disconnect the link to repeater K1AAA Port B M12 442.000 DUP (Plus) DV *******U KH6HPZ*B KH6HPZ*G KH6AAA

Note: Each asterisk (*) represents a blank.

To program your radio:

  • Press the VFO button to get started.
  • You set up the settings while in the VFO mode.
  • Then write the settings into Memory Channel 10, using the S.MW button.
  • Change the UR setting to CQCQCQ, then write the settings into Memory Channel 11 with the S.MW button.
  • Finally, change the UR setting to *******U, (where each asterisk is a blank character), then write the settings into Memory Channel 12 with the S.MW button.

You will need only one memory channel each programmed to the settings in Memory 11 and 12 in your radio. You add as many memory channels programmed in the style of Memory 10 where you put in different repeaters in the UR callsign setting. New

To operate, use Memory channel 11, transmit and announce your callsign and your intention to link the repeater. Then, use Memory channel 10, transmit briefly (about 1/2 second) which sends the command to link. The KH6HPZ DSTAR Gateway should respond and give a status that the repeater is linked, or that the remote repeater is busy (in which case the link connection was not made).

To converse, use Memory channel 11. When you are done with the contact and the repeater link, unlink the repeater by briefly transmitting using Memory channel 12 which sends the command to unlink. New
