The DVRA Fall Hamfest (West Windsor, NJ) has been added to the calendar for 14 September
The SCARA Jersey Shore Hamfest, scheduled for 20 July, has been postponed.
No future date has been set yet.
The Tri-State ARA (TSARA) Hamfest in Matamoras, PA, scheduled for 11 August, has been cancelled
The VintageTech East Festival at InfoAge (Wall Township, NJ) normally in May has been cancelled for 2013 due to ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy.  It will return next year.
However, the InfoAge Auction is still on for 27 April
The Delmarva Hamfest (Georgetown, DE) has moved from April to October
The Cherryville Hamfest has changed the date from 16 March to 11 May.
The Pocono Area Hamfest has been cancelled for 2013 - will be back in 2014
The PackRats will be holding a free "Mini-Hamfest" in conjunction with the VHF Conference in Bensalem, PA, on 29 September.  It will not be held at the usual Wrightstown Grange.

* Note:  "Removed from Calendar" means that no information has been provided by the hamfest sponsor, they have not replied to e-mail requests, the hamfest is not listed with the ARRL, and the sponsor's website has no current hamfest information.  It can be assumed the hamfest no longer exists.

Notes

Cost Codes:  U16 means "kids under the age of 16."  14U means "kids 14 years of age and under."  Other ages may be shown also.  ULS means "unlicensed spouse."  XYL (ex-young lady) is one's wife (or more politically correct, one's spouse) regardless of license status.  BYOT means "Bring Your Own Tables."

All hamfests are held on Sunday (typically opening at 8:00 am, 6:30 am for vendors) unless otherwise stated. 
Dates listed as TBD have not been set yet, but are listed according to last year's date. 

Hamfest information is provided as a service to area hams.  Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the information listed above, but always contact the hamfest sponsor prior to attending to confirm!  Sponsors should notify VARA of changes/corrections to the above listings to avoid upset patrons.
 


*Volunteer Examiner (VE) License Testing:

Bring photo ID, original license, any CSCEs, and photocopies of license and CSCEs.  Nominal fee (typically $15) usually charged.

Notes for Vendors: 

Each hamfest sets it own vendor rules, but here are some guidelines.  Vendors should always contact the hamfest committee for specific vendor requirements, last minute prices, etc. 

  • Check to see if the hamfest has reduced rates for advanced sales, and what the deadline is 
  • Use an SASE (Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope) when ordering advanced tickets or reservations
  • Some hamfests permit early setup the day before, and may permit overnight camping (always check first!) 
  • The tax collectors have been frequenting the hamfests - commercial vendors should have their paperwork (e.g., tax or license certificates) in order 
  • Most hamfests limit what you can sell - always check first.  Few permit food/drink sales which would compete with the club's food concessions. 
  • If you need electric power, always check first to be sure it will be available.  Tables with electric are usually first come, first served, so get there early. 
  • Most hamfests are held rain or shine.  Tailgaters should be prepared with tarps, canopies, etc.  Be prepared for hot sun in the summer - bring shade and something to drink. 
  • Bring extra money to be able to make change (you might miss a sale if you can't change that $20!) 
  • If you plan to spread your wares out on the ground, bring a ground cloth or table - the ground may be damp 
  • Arrive on time.  Many hamfests don't like earlier arrivers, and if you get there too late, you'll miss the bargain hunters who usually show up early prepared to buy. 
  • If permitted, consider selling items which might attract kids and XYLs to keep the ham at your table longer 
  • Be prepared to quote a price for your items.  Consider price tags for customer convenience. 
  • Don't overprice your items - hamfest buyers are looking for bargains!  Do you really want to go home again with that boat anchor?
