Above is the CAT Shack in East Brighton, a suburb of Melbourne, the capital city of VK3. The antennas are a 6 element 6 metre yagi, then a 13 element 2 metre ssb yagi and lower again is a 3 element Hidaka triband
yagi. The wire antenna is a V 'Doublet' - about 46 metres long, supported by trees at the rear of the property. There is a Comet triband vertical for 6,2 &70 FM and 1 x 13 element fixed yagi for 70CM SSB,
a ground plane and a Discone for the scanners.
The mast is made of water pipe. The rotator is inside the roof space with a thrust bearing at the top which is 3 metres above the roof tiles. The rotatable section is 2 metres long with 2 metres separation between
the yagis. Total height above the tiles is 5 metres. This configuration complies with Victorian Government planning laws and thus does not require a permit. The above picture is of a previous installation
that required alterations in order to comply!
