CG035 Drone Blades

If you want to have really good performance with the CG035 Drone (or any other large drone) you need to get the blades you receive from the factory, or Ebay suppliers, into tip top shape for flying. There are three key factors I believe need to be looked into.

Wing tip profile

The wing tip needs to have a smooth curl to it in order give lift. If the tip end is flat tape the blade around a curved object ( a bit of 25mm dowel ) and warm with a hair dryer. Once its nice and hot to the touch let it dry for an hour or put the whole thing in the freezer for 8 mins after which the plastic should have set into it's new shape.

Straight Blades

It is very important to have a straight profile to the non-curved side of the blades. See the following photo where the new blades are bolted together and are obviously not straight edged.

Another method is to tape the edges together as well as using clips, care should be taken not to melt the tape while heating. A little at a time is better than trying to do this all in one pass. It is also important to recognize the blade itself has a "melting" temperature and that you are trying to work within a'window'of heating to get good results.

The following pictures show the results, which are quite dramatic compared to the original profiles.

Balanced Blades

Balancing blades is probably the most important aspect of blade maintenance. There are numerous ways to do this but for AU$5.00 on Ebay a magnetic balance can be bought making the process quite simple. The following pictures show blades mounted on the balance. Obvious out of balance and then balanced using slivers of duct tape applied to the underside of the blade profile.

Now your drone blades are balanced and straight which should greatly improve flight performance.
