Our group
of Radioamateurs organises a special event station to commemorate
the anniversary of the landing in Ranville Normandy! This World
War 2 event started the liberation of Europe (D-Day second World
War 1940-45).
Our special call is F/ON6JUN/P what means "France On
the 6th of June at Pegasus".

Day 1: Wednesday 4/6/2003:
After days of
preparing the equipement a part of the crew,
Kurt-Marnix-Geert-Willy-Eddy-Steven, started the trip to
Normandie at 03:15 UTC. Ready for 460 Km of road to
activate the special Event Station F/ON6JUN/P.
This year we decided to take only the highways so we
could make the trip shorter in time ! At 08 :45 UTC we
arrived
in Ranville !
After some official welcome-words to the
people of the Memorial Pegasus museum, we started to
set-up the camp.
At 10:30 UTC Jos arrived also in Ranville.
15:00 UTC, and we were invited to the opening-drink for
the festivities 2003 to commemorate the 59th anniverserie
of
D-Day.
At 17:00 UTC we made the first radio-checks ! Everything
was OK, now we hoped for some good propagation-conditions
!
In the evening we also organised a little drink for the
start of the activation of F/ON6JUN/P 2003.
Day 2: Thursday 5/6/2003:
Up at 5:00
UTC, first contacts made on 20m and 40m in voice ; 30m in
CW ; 6m open to EH, beacon is 57, no stations
QRV ! ! Poor conditions on HF.
PM : Still poor conditions on HF, contacts on 20 and 40m
phone, CW on WARC-bands, 15m open for 1 hour. Some short
openings on 6 in the direction of EH, CT and LA.
At 15 UTC, big opening on 6 ! Worked KP4 (Puerto Rico).
16:45 UTC : short skip direction EI, G ; contacts via
backscatter into F, ON, PA ! !
Evening : contacts on 20, 40m, bad conditions, other
bands closed.
In the evening we organised a little party for Jos,
ON5SD, birthday.

Day 3: Friday 6/6/2003 ----- D-Day:
Up at 5:00
UTC, Its D-Day ! Contacts on 20m and 40m in voice ;
30m in CW ; some short openings on 15m and 6m.
Very poor conditions ! Most of the HF-contacts are with
European stations !
PM : Still poor conditions on all bands !
6m opens at 15 :30 UTC! First in direction South-East,
then East and finaly North-East ! At 19 :00 UTC 6 is wide
open
in every direction ! Huge pile up during 1 hour ! At 20
:15 UTC band closed again. 15m is open into Europe.

Day 4: Saturday 7/6/2003:
Up at 5:00
UTC. At 10:00 UTC we would closing down the station !
Active on 20 and 40m voice, 30m CW, higher bands are
closed.
11:30 UTC : we started to break-up the station. Only 1
tent stayed to sleep.
16:00 UTC : time for our Big Barbecue

We stopped activating
the call F/ON6JUN/P around 12:00h UTC. This year it's 59 years
ago that Europe was liberated (D-Day).
This special event station was "on-air" on all major
HAM-bands from Wednesday the 4th of June 'till Saturday
evening the 7th of June 2003.
QTH was the garden of the "Memorial Pegasus Museum" in Ranville.
