 Problems

Luckily there are not too many problems with receiving SSTV as the one thing you cannot

control is the fading and interference that occurs on some bands . However one thing does give concern to the newcomer and that is his pictures do not come down straight !

This is because the synch pulses that are transmitted by the sending station are too weak to be detected OR as is more often the case, the receiving station has not set up the software to avoid the problem.

For most software the slope correction is simply a case of superimposing a coloured line on the side of the sloping picture and clicking the mouse Pictures are now received Straight !

Others sample several received pictures and correct themselves , It works usually as long as no stations actually transmit say four pics in succession ALL SLOPING then this type of software will correct for these pics and ALL straight pics received will then slope <grin>

Finally the programs like ChromaPix and Winpix32 allow sync to be done using transmissions from WWW on 10 Mhz but as this is not always strong in UK most folks still rely on taking reports from known Amateurs who they know are always transmitting straight Pictures !!
