NVIS

NVIS, which stands for Near-Vertical Incident Skywave, is a simple yet powerful technique where HF in the frequency range of about 3 to 7 Mhz (the 40, 60 and 80 meter bands) is aimed upwards towards the sky, reflected off the ionosphere, and returns to the ground in a pattern that spreads out in a circle approximately 400 or more miles across.
