We just purchased HyperLynx's HyperSuite of signal integrity tools. I was told
that the ACCEL EDA signal integrity tools were basically the HyperLynx tools
bundled with the ACCEL EDA. I had not confirmed this directly myself, but I
would imagine that since HyperLynx has a board translation tool that translates
the ASCII .pcb files from ACCEL that the BoardSim package could be could be
integrated quite nicely into ACCEL EDA. I do not know if the ACCEL EDA signal
integrity tools also provide the prelayout equivalent of LineSim that HyperLynx
offers. This allows you to run scenarios prior to board layout and route to
assist in developing layout strategies and constraints. My suggestion would be
to ask ACCEL if their SI tools are HyperLynx or not. If it is a subset of the
HyperLynx tool geared specifically for ACCEL, then perhaps there may be some
limitations (e.g. ability to upgrade to handle the translation of other EDA tool
.pcb files) and it would be better to just by the HyperLynx tools. We have been
pleased with the usefulness of the HyperLynx tools. We have seen evidence that
the simulation results are fairly consistent with lab results. Certainly the
tool has limitations, but we found that for our designs in which we are running
75, 80 and soon 100 Mhz clock speeds, the tool does what we need. HyperLynx is
quite inexpensive, runs on Windows 95/98, and is very intuitive to use.

Subject: [SI-LIST] : ACCEL's "signal integrity" tool

Hi, all,

Just wondering if anyone's used/heard of Accel's signal-integrity simulation
tool. Apparently, it's integrated with their PCB layout tools, which we use
here. Their web site has a fairly-useless marketing blurb. I've got no
idea how much it costs; I figured I'd get real-world opinions before I call
the sales-droids.

thanks,

-andy
