SDR 1000 Fan Noise

As I spend a lot of time listening, I found the fan which was designed to be constantly on, annoying. Over the weekend of the 14th July 2007, I picked up a thermostat kit from Maplins and shortly afterwards I fitted it inside  the SDR. The thermistor sits just above the PA, the negative rail of the fan is now switched by a relay, and power is drawn within the SDR itself. Tests have shown no adverse affects to receive or transmit. For £4.99, a neat little kit which sits nicely behind the front panel of the radio.

The Maplin MK138 thermostat kit for £4.99 - works very well!

The four pictures above show the thermostat in place, top left - the thermostat is visible near the front left of the radio, top right - shows the front of the SDR with the thermostat LED as well as the two PCB screws used to mount the printed circuit board, bottom left - shows the thermostat terminal block, and bottom right - shows a top view displaying where I have taken the power feed from as well as the location of the blue thermistor.
