The Radio Today guide to the IC-7300 MK2.
The IC-7300 MK2 is the exciting sequel to the best selling IC-7300, which created something of a revolution in the amateur radio world, bringing SDR technology well and truly into "the mainstream." It introduced many features that were previously only available on much more expensive radios.
The new model brings some great performance enhancements, and it now includes a CW decoder, which is a very welcome addition for me.
Revised components and DC power optimization have reduced heat generation while the radio is receiving. The power consumption has been reduced by 23% from around 900 mA during receiver standby (receiving but not tuned to a signal) to about 700 mA.
Other new features include an HDMI connector for an external monitor. This includes audio output to your monitor over HDMI. There was no external monitor output on the original IC-7300.
There are SMA receiver antenna input and output connectors. So, you can attach a receiver-only antenna, or an external bandpass filter or pre-amplifier. or you could connect an external SDR receiver, compensating for the lack of a second receiver in the radio. An Ethernet connector provides network capability for the RS-BA1 remote control software, without the need for a computer at the radio site.
