HUNTING SEASON - 2003

This is me and my button buck that I took during the 2003 doe season.  This button buck was taken on our club property, Meadow River Wildlife Club and is located near Hico, Fayette County, WV.

Here is a map of the old Meadow River Wildlife Club located near Hico, Fayette County, WV.  The Meadow River Wildlife Club is no longer in existence as of 2004.  The new land owner raised the lease on the property to a point that the club was not able to met the required lease payment.  The club lost a lot of members due to the previous land owner doing a lot of timbering on the property.  Some of the property was clear cut and some was select cut.  Of course I realize that the timbering is helpful.  The first year it may be hard to hunt that particular area, but after about a two or three year period these spots would become deer hot spots.  We had over 7,000 acres to hunt on which made hunting great.  Very seldom did you run into another hunter.  The club never had nor did it put a limit on the amount of members that could join, but it didn't help to keep the property.  I guess that there are some who feel that the property wasn't worth hunting since some of it had been timbered.  The areas to the north that are shaded are areas that were clear cut and the areas that were select cut are not shown.  The big area shaded to the south is the area where 4 wheelers (ATV's) are permitted.  The remaining property was not for ATV use.  

Now a new group has acquired some of the original property and the new group is known as the Dotson Ridge Hunting Club.  They have acquired the portion of the property that Jerod and I mainly hunted on.  They have a set limit of members that they will take and have designated some areas as bow hunting only and have also put a limit on the antler size for bucks.  At this time the dues are a little to much for me to join right now, but the President of the group keeps me on the list as a potential member and sends me notices when dues are due.  If in the near future I can afford to meet the dues I will probably join.  I hunted this land for over 18 or so years and have a lot of memories on that property.

Here is the hunting party for the 2003.  You have from left to right, my brother-in-law Alvin, my son Jerod, myself and Cage (Alvin's step-son).  This was Cage's first hunting trip.  Again, you can see the big grin on Jerod's face.

Here is the whole group again.  This was the last day at camp just before we left to come home.  Of course we didn't want to leave.  As you can see we had snow the later half of the week.

Here is a picture of the hunting party after getting back from camp.  From left to right, me, Charlie (my father-in-law), Alvin, Jerod and Cage.  Charlie couldn't make the trip to camp this year due to a doctors appointment at the VA Hospital in Virginia.

Here is Jerod with his 2nd buck for 2003.  He got this nice 6 point buck on the last day and the last hour of 2003 Buck Season.  He is holding his favorite rifle, a Remington Model 760 BDL pump, chambered in 30-06.
