3400 MHz Microwave Equipment of
VK3BJM.
Here is a little look at the gear I’ve played around
with for the 9cm Band (3.3-3.6 GHz)…
These are the modules that
will make up the working transverter. The
design comes from Zack Lau, KH6CP/1; Minikits produced it as a kit for a while
in the late 90s/early “noughties”.
Top left is the Minikits
Local Oscillator, which puts out 542.664 MHz.
At top right is the L.O. x6 Multiplier.
Centre is the KH6CP/1 Transverter
itself.
Bottom left is the Minikits
sequencer, and bottom left is the SMA changeover relay.
The L.O. and the x6
Multiplier have been soak tested, and work as per spec. The KH6CP/1 transverter is designed for 3456
MHz, whereas we in Australia operate at 3400 MHz. As yet I haven’t fired the 3256 MHz L.O. and the 144 MHz I.F.
into the transverter to confirm it all works ok – keeping my fingers crossed
that the difference in frequency isn’t too great for the filters etched onto
the PCB (they’re the copper tracks that look like a series of “U”s on the
left-hand side of the transverter).
If all else fails, there’s
always Graeme VK3XDK’s transverter kit to fall back on!
To be continued…
