Home Station photos:
A selection of photos of my home amateur radio station, located not
far from Kyneton in Victoria’s Central Highlands.
A
view of the western end of the house, showing (L-R) 50MHz J-pole vertical and dipole
on 6.5m pipe; stacked 144MHz J-pole vertical on 8.5m pipe (which also supports
a 3.5/7/14MHz trap dipole); discone on fascia mount; 144MHz 14-element Yagi and
432MHz 20-element Yagi on “Nally” tilt-over tower; and one of four 9m wooden
poles that support a full wave wire loop for 3.5MHz. The discone is the only antenna of commercial manufacture – and
it was a gift from a friend!
A view of the tower, with the
Yagi pointing towards Sydney. 2 cubic
metres of concrete pad help keep everything upright, in spite of the strong
winds that howl through the area on occasions.
The view towards Canberra/Sydney, along the boom of the 144MHz Yagi
(at about 10m above ground)…
The operating desk, with
assorted radio transceivers, transverters, power supplies, power amplifiers,
control boxes and other what-nots.
The test bench –
occasionally found to be tidy, but not ever for very long…
Twilight, with the
new Moon and Venus on the western horizon.
In the last week of May 2006, I finally had time to replace
my original single VHF & UHF Yagi with 4x Yagi arrays on both bands.
End of day 1: The
first of four 14-element 144MHz Yagi mounted on the “H-Frame”.
A few days
later: All four 144MHz Yagi, plus the
four 28-element 432MHz Yagi on the “H-Frame”.
All that metal
weighs a bit; so much so that I had to add a little length to the winding
handle of the Nally tower tilt winch – and jury-rig a counter-weight.
Phew! All safely up – the new neighbour-scarer up
and running.
And yes – it seems
to work better than the single Yagi…
