Pancake Breakfasts are a staple of the ROV's fund raising efforts. They generally happen once a month during the summer: You can find the current schedule at the Red Oak Victory Event Calendar. For the price of admission, you get hearty breakfast (pancakes, sausage, eggs and hash browns), some musical entertainment (often with bands that play tunes from the swing era) and get to enjoy the sun on Red Oak Victory's deck.
In keeping with the club's goal of promoting interest in the S.S. Red Oak Victory, we operate a ship to shore link, sending radiograms in Morse code to various shore stations. And, in the process, we get to demonstrate the fully functional radio room equipment.
The ship is open to the public on Sundays. You'll often find a member of the ROVARC (mainly Gary) planted in the radio room, ready and able to explain the equipment and encouage people (especially young people) to get involved with radio.
We participate in a number of ARRL sponsored events and contests. The Red Oak Victory is recognized as a SOTA ("Ship On The Air"), a POTA ("Park On The Air") and a MOTA ("Museum On The Air). We pay particular attention to Museum Ships Special Events. Of course we always like talking with our friends at the Jeramiah O'Brian and the other locals. But it's also nice to talk with people who have an interest in historical vessels and talk a bit about the Red Oak Victory.
