Amateur Radio Nets are often in touch
during distress or emergency situations at sea
to monitorize vessels in difficulties. We
recommend: a
vessel
in case of difficulties must to launch
MAYDAY signal at first,
on the International Distress Frequencies of maritime
bands, informing the closest
Coast Radio Station of their difficulties, in
this case the ship will
receive the best assistance -
this is the right procedure
established by SOLAS Rules in case of distress.
If there is not success to enter
in contact with the proper Authorities at shore
the
international rules for the safety of life
at sea established
that a vessel in difficulties can
use any resource
to attract attention about a distress, for this reason
we can accept distress calls. We will relay immediately
the information received from vessels in difficulties
to the Coast Guard Authorities and we can give our support
to follow the development of the situations.
