The
D-117 or the K-4, these heavy duty straight keys were designed

They were also seen widely used in Civilian service like remote

the primary standard issue morse key for the Chinese military.
These keys were made in, at least, four or five factories
when in the morse communication golden era. These heavy duty
keys were manufactured around the 1960s, but this one was
made in 1994 by Factory of " Changshu Telecommunication
Equipment " in Jiangshu Province, PR China.
The key is in factory new condition The keys have chrome plating,
machined needle bearings for the trunion, hard silver contacts,

67 ..... SPEED X MORSE CODE KEY WITH PADDLE |
This is the NYE M/SSK-1 super squeeze keyer on the left and a
combination with a straight key on the right.
The company was founded in 1972 by WILLIAM NYE, BELLEVUE, WA
who retired in 1986. Bill Nye Jr. (WB7TNN) operate the company and they
employ a part time key assembler and electronics technician.
William Nye was born in North Dakota (ND) in 1912 and moved to Seattle
in 1924. He was a amateur radio operator (W7DZ) since age 12. He owned
and run the company until he sold it and retired in 1971.
The NYE COMPANY then bought the SPEED-x
trademark from the E.F.Johnson Company in the fall of 1972. They bought
tooling to manufacture keys, low pass filters, mathboxex and sounders.
Nye is using the same key casting molds that were used by the Les
Logan and E.F.Johnson Companies. These molds were
re-worked in 1972 and were acquired from the Johnson company
and is doubtful that new ones have been made since the 1930's. Their key
bases are cast in zinc by a sub-contractor in the Seattle area. Zinc is
used because of ease of casting, low cost and solid weight.
Information gathered from the N7CFO KEYLETTER's.
I purchased it to Kathy
Nelsen, Tumwater,
WA, USA. |
