April Activity - QRP Operation

I wrote an article in the Nov/Dec 2001 YL Harmonics where I suggested 12 activities that one can do in Amateur Radio during 2002 and recommended that we devote one month to each activity. Some of these may be new to you and others you may not have done. The list of activities are as follows:
This month we will discuss QRP Operation. I will try to list a brief introduction to each section followed by links to those pages that provide background information. After reading them be sure to hit the back button to get back to this page.
If you know of any cool links, let me know.

What is QRP?

QRP is usually defined as operating using less than 5W of power. Most QRPers operate CW but some use SSB and other modes too. Why operate QRP? Some like the challenge of being able to contact a DX station using only 5W or less while those around them are operating 100W or even 1kW, others get into it because you can build an entire station with a QRP transceiver kit at the heart of it while otheres ...just like operating QRP!

You don't necessarily need a QRP kit to operate QRP, if you can reduce the power on your rig and check it out with a meter, then you too can operate QRP. So this month try operating QRP and see what you think of it.

There are tons of QRP groups and links, below are some of the groups I belong to, have bought kits from or ones that has tons of links to other groups. If you have a favorite that's not listed, let me know.
