SS clock synthesizers are used to reduce EMI. For eg. if the output of
a clock driver (synthesizer) is nominally 133mhz, it is spread about this
value (there are different methods : center spread and down spread, the
down spread is the more popular and effective) by about 0.5 to 1.5% percent
of the nominal freq.. Check parts from Cypress Semiconductor, and ICS for
Clock generators for PC motherboards. ICWorks has now merged into Cypress.
