About me

Here's a little info about me. My name is Carlo Salvitti and I was born and raised in Canada. My parents are two of many Italian immigrants to Canada after WWII. They came to Canada for work and to create a better life for their children. I've been a licensed Amateur since 1998.

I work any band that I can get my hands on equipment for. I am currently equipped for all HF bands, all modes, both in the shack and mobile. Like most hams, I am on the 2M and 70cm (440Mhz) bands as well. However, unlike most other hams, I am also equipped for:

  • 1.25M (220Mhz)
  • 33cm (900Mhz)
  • 23cm (1200Mhz) 1W HT

I have also served my community as Assistant Emergency Coordinator since 2003.

Interests and other hobbies

Here's a partial list of things I like to dabble in:

  • Music
  • Photography
  • Outdoors

I once owned over $10,000 in vinyl records. I hope my ex-wife enjoys them. :) But I did manage to get most of those converted into electronic form. They are sitting on a 1Tb RAID 1 disc array in my computer, and it's currently 75% full! I guess I'm pretty eclectic in my musical tastes. ;)

I also enjoy banging on drums, though I'm not sure the neighbours enjoy it as much as I do. :)

I'm no professional, but I do like to take pictures. The shots I get are not always what I intended, but I enjoy making the effort. I take both still and motion pictures, mostly for my own enjoyment.

I love the outdoors. From Spring to Fall you'll often find me looking for any excuse to go out and enjoy nature. Camping; biking; hiking; or just laying under an old Oak tree and enjoying a nap. Of course, I always have my HT with me... ;)
