Welcome to the FM1100/1200/1300 Extensive Conversion page

The Extensive Conversion was designed by Dennis Koller PA4DEN who released his product into the freeware domain. The conversion works with all FM1200's, 1300's and 1100's (the latter less tone functions) covering all bands between 50 and 600 MHz. The software consists of three parts:

1. Firmware in 27C512 EPROM (64 kB)

2. Displayware in 27C128, 27C256 or 27C512 EPROM (64 kB)

3. Toneware in 27C256 PLCC-32 (optional) (16 KB)

The above files are supplied in binary format for use with any EPROM programmer. The small program in the display EPROM is replicated a number of times to allow '128, '256 and '512 EPROMs to be used.

I can supply a Conversion Kit consisting of the three above mentioned ICs (ready-programmed), components for the tone extension circuitry and a display transparent containing all the relevant symbols. Email [email protected] for price and availability.

  The Extensive Conversion requires some soldering on the control board of your FM1200 or 1300. No modifications or retuning is required in the RF sections. I normally recommend this conversion to experienced radio amateurs only. Before you read on,

make sure you understand the meaning of the type number of your FM1000 radio;
make sure your radio is currently (1) working, (2) complete and (3) has a working numeric keypad head;
check availability of the Conversion Kit (see above);
have a look at the exact type of control board fitted in the FM1200 or 1300. So far, four different versions have been identified, and even these come in different variants. The main identifier is a yellow number printed in a corner of the board. I have successfully converted control board versions 1, 2, 3 and 4;
realize that this information is offered to you for and by radio amateurs, without any claim as to completeness. Modifying your radio is at your own risk. Help is available via the FM1000 newsgroup.

The sheer power, ingenuity and incredible array of features of this conversion have to be experienced to be believed. The Extensive Conversion has been well tried by Dutch, German and UK radio amateurs and is currently in its 5th software revision. It is not recommended to beginners, who are advised to stick with the Simple Conversion.

The size and complexity of the User Manual and Modification description I have produced for the Extensive Conversion are such that they can not be published as HTML pages for direct viewing. That is why they are available as pdf files only, for downloading and opening using Acrobat Reader. Please use the buttons in the navigation bar.

  Both documents are available in Dutch and English.
