"The Coon Hunters"
The Problem and The Plan

For months the K4TQU repeater in Crawford, has suffered interference from unlicensed operators in North Carolina. At first, we thought this would be tolerable or would just go away. It hasn't gone away. It has gotten worse as more illegal operators purchase 2-meter gear in the Brevard area. Read about the Problem and the proposed solution on the Plan Page .

The Interference Log

This is a record of Interference Incidents heard on the K4TQU repeater. If you hear something, please Email us the Date & Time and what you heard. Every scrap of information could help. Be specific, include the names or handles you hear. Also, include the names of landmarks or places you hear spoken about. This list will be updated as your reports are submitted. Remember, all of this will be sent to Riley Hollingsworth at the FCC.

If you are able to make a recording of interference you hear on the repeater, we would really like to hear it. If it's on tape try recording it to a WAV file on your computer. Then, Zip it and send it as an Email attachment. If we get several we could list them here, so you can click, and hear what's going on, too.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question or a brilliant idea, send it in, we'll add it to the FAQ collection . There's information about how to make a recording of the interference, how to build a RDF antenna, and other relevant stuff. If you have a question, send it in. Remember the Geezer Motto, "Three heads are better than none" or is it "Three heads are as good as one?" I forget ...

Links

It just wouldn't be the Real Internet without a Links Page . Here are more of them than the sweat beads on a transplanted Yankee's brow in August. There are a couple of links about building a beam antenna from a tape measure. (Jeff has proven that this one works very well!)

Here are some responses that have been received. There's information about the "Devil's Courthouse", "Looking Glass Rock", a Poem by the "Ridge Runner" and a faux Email from the "Coon Hunters." Check out the Echo Page.

Ham Radio License Plates

"Most of you may have already gotten the word, but for the benefit of those of you who haven't, next year will be the year for the issuing of new license plates in the state of Georgia. For those of you with amateur radio tags, to automatically be re-issued a tag next year with your callsign on it, you must go to your local tag office prior to July 31st of this year with a copy of your amateur radio license and a filled-out form MV9X. You can download that form at http://www.dmvs.ga.gov/forms/pdf/motor/MV-9X.pdf. If you don't take care of this prior to the cut-off date, you'll simply be issued a standard tag next year, and you'll have to go through the process of ordering a ham tag, and waiting for it." -TNX KE4QVH

National Do Not Call Registry

National Do Not Call Registry The National Do Not Call Registry gives you an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls you receive. On October 1, 2003, when the National Do Not Call Registry will be enforced, most telemarketers will be required to remove the numbers on the registry from their call lists.

Most telemarketers cannot call your telephone number if it is in the National Do Not Call Registry. You can register your home and mobile phone numbers for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

The National Do Not Call Registry is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency. It will be enforced by the FTC, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and state law enforcement officials.

If you register by August 31, 2003, you will start receiving fewer telemarketing calls by October 1, 2003. If you register after September 1, 2003, telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call Registry will have up to three months from the date you register to stop calling you. Register Here. -TNX KC4GZX
