INTRODUCTION

I'm a database developer, not a web developer. But I thought I'd try this out and see just how easy web development might be. I'm not using one of those fancy point and click web development tools, but rather something that won't produce spaghetti code.

I thought I'd use something simple as a development tool. I found something ABSOLUTELY FREE called First Page 2000. It's almost as good as HomeSite and it COSTS NOTHING.

My first call was WN2KCH, issued on 10-31-1972. I was 15 years old. I immediately learned to love CW. Had various BOAT-ANCHORS for rigs (including an all solid state Hammarlund HQ-215... boy I wish I had that thing now). Other novice calls were KA2HJD and KB2ECF (the latter expired in 97). On January 23rd, 2000 I re took the Novice and passed. I had studied for the Tech. and General... and so I took them (The CW was the least of my worries). Much to my amazement I passed both.

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to use these darn satellites. Actually, I did make a little progress with that. I purchased an Arrow Antenna (2 meter/440). It works great! I've made several contacts with it. The cool part is the very cheap satellite antenna and rotor system I have created.

Even though I took the pre-April 2000 test... I'm one of those hams that doesn't think the hobby is going all to the dogs. Restructuring has been happening since the dawn of Amateur Radio. Our survival is a testament to the vitality of the hobby. The lack of new hams is not because the hobby is aging, but because our culture is in a crisis of intellect. But take heart om/yl... times are a changing. Thanks for reading this, 73s Hope to cuagn.
