Amateur Radio is Alive & Well

Bill Jones, NØCIC has loaned the camp a 2M J-Pole antenna for the summer. This has been lashed to a tree next to the Health Lodge and the Camp Wilderness calling frequency of 145.700 MHz is being monitored. This past week we had one youth in camp with a 2M handheld and have been talking to him in the evenings.  We have another amateur on staff this year, Andrew Gable, KDØKIS.  He is the Program Director for the Cub Camp. We are looking forward to talking to more amateurs as the summer goes on.

KØNLC will hopefully be on the air for Field Day. With the unfortunate tornado that went through Wadena, MN, a lot of the amateurs that were going to be at Camp for Field Day have instead gone to Wadena to help out with communications there.

The greatest news revolves around the 85’ Rohn Tower.  Ranger Andy took the tower to town and had the bent section straightened!  The cost was about $40! Anyway, that is fixed and now we need to concentrate on raising money for the concrete to get this tower up.  Les has been working on numbers. The ballpark estimate is around $1200 to $1500 for concrete and supplies needed to raise the tower.  So…if anyone has any ideas for fundraising, please let everyone know.

Congratulations

As of today, KDØMCT has been issued to Ron Schneider! Ron passed his Technician license test last week. Congratulations Ron! We look forward to hearing you on the air.
