Contests And Awards Manager Carolyn ZL2JP

Greetings to all I hope life has got back to some sort of routine after the conference, as I know a great time was had by all. I was really thrilled by how the Award and the QSL card progressed. For a start I would like to thank ZL2JKS for printing the Cetificates and QSL cards for me, a job well done. I also wish to thank all the girls who volunteered for the roster, also everyone else who came up on air to give out callsigns. without you there would not have been much of an award.

The DXers were really thrilled to be able to work the YLs from New Zealand especially the German and Japanese girls. It was a delight to work them and then meet them at the Conference. I also wish to thank the ZL YLs who took the time to work our visitors at Conference for the Certificate. It was a bit confusing (see above) but a lot of fun and our visitors really appreciated it and they couldn't wait to hand me their Logs.

At the moment I am still receiving applications for the Certificate and so far have had 93 apply for it which is really great as it was the first one that I had organised. Italy 1, Canada 1, New Zealand 42, Australia 11, Yugoslavia 1, Germany 14, France I, Denmark 2, England 2, Japan 10, Sweden 3, Finland 2, USA 2, Norway 1. If you want the Award and are a few contacts short please contact me and I will see what I can do.

Gails of Tamahere
ZLlJAQ - Sunday morning saw us onto buses again heading for Gails of Tamshere Gardens and Dried Flowers Complex. This was where the bus drivers lost their way and were able to practice their reversing skills as they backed up along seemingly endless narrow lanes. They finally arrived at their instructed destination. We are still wondering where Lynn ZL2PQ, Trevor ZLlTAD and Christine VK5CTY went to in their own car.
At Gails we found that two churches of yesteryear stood side by side. One was full of dried flower arrangements
hanging from the ceiling and had items on sale and the other church had its original pews where we were able to sit and watch a demonstration on how to arrange dried flowers. Running around in the pouring rain between buildings was all in the fun. Gails also has a restaurant as part of the complex and when we made dry ground we had a nice meal and once again good company.
Ruth LA6ZH - An unexpected pleasure - At Gails of Tamahere I met Biny's daughter and grandchildren with whom I had lunch. Little Conor stole my heart!
